Veronica and that situation [SPOILERS]

Why was it necessary for Jesse to "mature" by getting his one-night stand pregnant? He doesn't seem to be freely happy at the end. When Celeste asks if he loves Veronica, he shakes his head "yes" but is not convincing. Meanwhile Celeste had pushed past the hard part and was ready to move on.

I love that the plot had Celeste and Jesse growing up and growing out of each other. But Jesse was forced to make a choice and "make it work" as opposed to Celeste learning her life lesson the realistic way: "Don't take things for granted." Many people can relate to the crappy things that are necessary for growth and change. Although Jesse stepped up the plate and took responsibility, it doesn't necessarily make a person grow up emotionally. Maybe that was the point?

I think so.

I felt bad for Jesse's future and very hopeful for Celeste.

Celeste's future seemed full of possibility; Jesse's was already laid out for him (literally) as a father and husband.

Yeah, I honestly don't believe Jesse would be married to Veronica forever, it is difficult to maintain a marriage when you do it for love, it is even MORE difficult to maintain it if you go in it out of obligation. Honestly I think he'll maybe give it 5 years at most and then get divorced. But who knows.

This movie is mostly from Celeste's point of view. So, Jesse response that he IS in love with Veronica comes as a surprise to the audience. I think that's why you say it's not convincing, because we/Celeste had not seen enough of Jesse and Veronica as a couple to have seen them fall in love. But he and Celeste are honest with each other. I don't think he would say he loved Veronica if he didn't mean it. We just haven't had a chance to see it, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

As for why it was necessary to have Jesse get Veronica pregnant, it's not that it was "necessary" but it just reflects something that can and does happen all the time. I think Jesse was ready to move on before Celeste. She only "pushed past the hard stuff" because she was forced to -- because Jesse moved on first.

He didn't set out to get Veronica pregnant. It happened during a one night stand earlier. He also reminded Celeste he and her had talked about having a baby and Celeste had said no.

He later pressed Celeste to stop delaying the divorce because Veronica was from Belgium and a non-citizen. Veronica was coming up on a deadline of being forced to leave the country if still unmarried and having his baby in Europe.

Why do u think he was not happy at the end and it was not convincing that he loved Veronica?
for me I see he was happy and he loved Veronica
I would feel sorry for him if he ended up with such a person who would think he is not gonna be a good dad for her kids, that was awful
he had to have a car and other things to be considered fit for her?
I liked Veronica better coz she wasn't mean to him and Celeste had a chance to go back to him after they slept together when they were drunk but she said it was a stupid mistake.

Don't forget that the actress who plays Veronica is absolutely gorgeous. She's super model gorgeous. Jesse could do a million times worse, and, if he hit forty being such a non-employed schlub, he WOULD do a million times worse.

In terms of just looks, Veronica is a big upgrade over Celeste.

This is very true and an often overlooked point.
