Uninspired?

I found this film lacking in so many areas.

I read the synopsis, I like all the actors so I went in with expectations,..not strong or high expectations I just hoped to see a film that struck some kind of chord with me and I have to say this is one of the dullest films I have ever seen. The whole premise is convincing but actually watching it play out was painful for me. After the first twenty minutes I realized it was very slow moving, I continued to watch because i'm not the kind of person to shut off a film. I always try my best to get through the entire thing before I form an opinion...I wish I turned this off because the ending has ZERO pay off. Very few of the actors actually seem like they have known eachother for years. They didn't have enough chemistry to pull off a group of friends that have been hanging out together for years. it just fell flat on so many levels. The acting was good in my opinion. Everyone played their part with what they were given but man,..they weren't given much. The whole 'we love art history' thing was kind of plopped down in what seemed like an attempt to give depth to these characters but the film is just not artistic enough for that. They could have said that they were all friends because they cheer on the same sports team and that would be easier to believe. Katie Holmes character is sad, I get it but wow does she ever suck the life out of each frame..disapointing to say the least and Josh Duhamel,...wow I don't know who thought his character was a good idea. He could have been written in so many ways that would make him likable but I guess the point was to make him the worst character of the bunch so that when two women are in love with him we question why?....umm makes no sense whatsoever. And the ending?...are we to believe that Katie Holmes character actually still likes this guy? after everything? she just laughs?

I just found it very odd, unrealistic, uninspired, dull, with too many characters and a misplaced message.

Notacastingcouch: I enjoyed your very incisive assessment of the film. I would only add that your subtitle is extra appropriate given Duhamel's insipid speech the night before the wedding re: how they must all continue to inspire and be inspired by the simple things. Someone should have suggested they return to the story board and improve the script. So much of this banal dialogue cloaked the movie I wonder that the actors didn't choke over the words. Granted, actors aren't writers but experienced performers know when words ring true and it strains credulity that all seven of these friends could be so vapid and immature.
