Did anyone else just know that Tyler...

Was going to die? And I don't mean the twist, I mean that the film was obviously heading toward a tragic conclusion where Tyler was going to perish, and that the film would literally live up to it's name?

My initial thoughts while watching:

- Right after the 10 years later part following the 1991 murder of Ally's mother, I said "Oh, someone's going to die in the towers". However a newscaster on one of the TVs spoke about recent terrorist attacks so I said "ah, so this is right after 9/11".

- As the film progressed on, and Tyler seemed stuck in his rut despite finding love, I thought he'd commit suicide.

- Finally when he seemed to be coming around I thought the tragedy would be random; that Ally would lose this love in her life in a similar way that she lost her mom.

But regardless of the ending I fully expected the film to careen headlong toward a tragic ending for Tyler. So when that really haunting, and IMO too obvious, Marcelo Zarvos piece struck up during the top of Ally and Tyler's final scene, I was fully expecting Tyler to be killed. Since I am a NYer, and recognized that he was in lower Manhattan while he was just on the street level in front of the red cube, that's when it dawned on me "Oh sh*t. He IS going to die in the towers".

Was that anyone else's experience?

As soon as they said that Michael killed himself on his 22nd birthday, I totally thought the same thing would happen to Tyler.

22 in the occult means "the death of the world as you know it". So it was a "22" not just for Tyler but for all of America.

Not only did I assume he would die, when they flashed forward to 2001, I knew how he would die.

No. I would have thought Ally would if anyone. But the writer had to keep adding more deaths.

Weirdly I predicted a bunch of lines. Not because they were exactly predictable, but it was what I happened to be thinking. Like when her dad was doing dishes I was like "Dude! You can't use that on a non-stick pan!" and then Ally walked in and said just that.

I kinda figured someone would die, worried Tyler would kill himself or something, but thought that wouldn't really make sense/would make a dumb movie. But it wasn't until the chalkboard that I realized what was gonna happen.

And um, what the heck was up with his Dad's expression in the last scene? I understand that when you're in shock you can't control your face, but he's an actor, and that just looked like he was thanking his lucky stars he wasn't in the building, and not too worried about the fact that his son was!

That's not true. The dad cried when he arrived! He did mourn Tyler! If you look closely you can see tears in his eyes. He wasn't smiling about the fact he survived, he smiled in a sad way because he mourned Tyler.

Just like Ally smiles in a sad way in the last scene when she is on the subway again after all the years. By now she has lost both her mom and her boyfriend. People can smile in a sad way!

I've noticed the grief expression on Brosnan's face after he heard about the tragedy and I thought it was incredibly well acted. I just yesterday discussed with a friend how crying in the movies often looks insincere. Brosnan's face really expresses tragedy without tears.
