I will be the first to say there is too much CGI in film these days but this one looks to be filmed in "super crappy animation" right out of "Team America." I mean come on... these days it would have to acting on the level of "The GodFather" to escape looking like crap. Yuck!

I get really tired of people bashing cgi all the time myself as it's usually the best route to go with films like this these days, but let's give it a chance. we've hardly seen anything of it yet.
Journey To The Centre of the Earth 3D is complete and utter..mediocre trash!
I think one of the most obvious things in life is that people who are bashing this film as horrible based on 2 seconds of animation (unless you guys saw something other than the official trailer which showed about 2 seconds of a Cyclops, in which case I shall amend my commentary properly) are incapable of having enough soul to appreciate the old films.
I've now seen the film and I am "bashing" it on the following;
Bad Acting, especially the lead, who can't act.
Terrible editing, choppy but brings no energy to the scene. any scene.
Boring music, Insipid, lifeless, lacking in excitement and dull.
Additional actors, also bad acting and lifeless
Dialogue, dialogue flips between bad and hilariously bad
Narration, Stewart was clearly bored
Good bits;
I'll given them Kudos for trying to recreate Harryhausen, an artist whos works I love. They, mostly, did a reasonable job. Not surprising though considering this is the one job likely to have been outsourced.
I was so looking forward to this film and it disappointed greatly. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone to spend money on. If they can see it for free then fine but they may still ask for their money back even then.
3 stars out of 10, and 2 of them are for the effects only.
Ray Harryhausen was at the cutting edge of special effects 50+ years ago.
If your special effects can't, at the very least, surpass something that was produced before computers went bing, then you need to give up your day job.
Sinbad was obviously made on a shoestring, by a bunch of friends and there's nothing wrong with that but let's not kid ourselves into believing that the people who made this film would, in any way, be allowed near a professional project.
I don't have a problem with the cgi, and probably am going to reserve judgement til (if) I see it - but I find it hilarious that this is not Sindbads fifth voyage at all! Hahaha - then again, nearly everyone of his voyages was the same.
Oh, you're refering to the trailer. The poster looks tacky and downright barmy. Perhaps it's a direct-to-DVD film. Patrick Stewartcan do better than to be associated with this, I hope he's not selling out.

Just saw the official trailer and my first thought was, is this a joke? It looks like they can't have spent more than a few thousand bucks on the whole film. The special effects are appalling. Harryhausen could have done better than this half a century ago.
Looks fantastic to me. I love stop-motion over CG any day and i grew up with Ray's work so i can't wait to see a real film for a change. The charm of puppet animation is that it's not perfect or polished, but then you're the generation of Transformers and modern Hollywood.
lol I'm the generation of Transformers? I'm 64 years old, buddy, and I grew up with Harryhausen's wonderful effects. I have no objection at all to old-style animation. But it has to be done well, with craft and art, as Ray Harryhausen did it. The stuff in this movie couldn't be uglier or more cackhanded.
I agree, aldiboronti. In order to have a successful (within reason) and proper ode to Ray's masterful work, it has to actually be done with care. You don't have to see this entire movie to confirm that the FX in this are hamfisted. The models are terrible to start with, and their movements are poorly puppeted. Even the CG that is used in the preview is awful. I've seen better stuff on Canadian Television. Compare this latest preview to a trailer of Harryhausen's 7th Voyage of Sinbad, and it is hard to argue that this isn't on the same level. Not even close.
CGI is a problem when it becomes the story, not supporting it. Like Phantom Menace.
IMHO - I love the campy, old style animation like the original Clash of the Titans. This reminded me of that. Sure it is old school and looks bad...but that is the point. The aren't trying to be michael bay here.
