This one took me back to my youth. I don't recall the last time I saw stop-animation in a movie. I remember the legendary 7th voyage, and I would put this one right there. Simple tale, love, magic and fiends. Acting was acceptable, nothing above the bar or below it. A good time for the family so long as you set your SFX expectations a little low for a movie made in 2014

I agree with you about the special effects. Great loving homage to old-school Harryhausen dynamation.
BUT I disagree with your assessment of the acting. This is bad. Bad. Like not even b-movie grade. But z-movie Ed Wood level bad.
