why is this rated so low? (SPOILERS)

i'm surprised that this film currently only has a 5.8 rating. though it was nowhere near as thought-provoking as christoffer boe's earlier films, it still had beautiful cinematography, excellent acting, and perfect pacing.

now i can understand how a lot of viewers may have been put off by the ending; however, i thought it was pretty clear in the beginning that the ali storyline was indeed the script jacob was working on. it was pointed out that jacob was working on a war film and, in more than one instance, jacob would sit down to write before it cut to ali. also, everytime we saw an external shot, it was stylized to look like the set models we saw in the opening credits.

i don't think boe's intention was for the revelation at the end to be that the ali storyline was fantasy. i think boe wanted us to know that, after all many characters commented on jacob's tendency to get lost in his writing. i think boe's intention was to show a man slowly getting caught up in his work and then to show us WHY he got so caught up.

am i off the mark here? is the film so lowly rated because it's misunderstood, or is it really just a mediocre film. (maybe i'm just happy that boe finally made a proper film without the pretentious 3rd person narration.)

for me this film isn't misunderstood, is closer to be "understood too well". It isn't really a bad film but i think there are too many films that exist only in the mind of the main character and this one is just one of those without adding anything new
