Anyone here old enough to remember the film in the subject line? Not to be confused with The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston. I'm referring to the one from the early 80's with Adam Baldwin (not one of the "Baldwin brothers") and Matt Dillon? This kid who lives with his Grandmother is being constantly bullied by Dillon and goes on to seek the help of this intimidating dude played by Baldwin. At firsr Baldwin wants nothing to do with the kid but soon sees for himself that the kid is hopeless and needs someone to help him out, so he finally helps.

Obviosly what I'm saying here is Hesher reminds me of a darker version My Bodyguard. It didn't occur to me til near the end when (spoiler alert!) Hesher scrapes the bullies nose with the clippers and the bully cries "my nose! My nose!"; I realized then he sounded exactly like Dillon when the kid finally gets his vengence by Dillon in the nose at which point he cried the same words. Then I was all 'hey...!'

Interesting parallel. I can see the similarities, but it's probably just coincidental. To your point, though, the Adam Baldwin character was working through his own pain, same as Hesher.

I definitely thought that. I love My Bodyguard, watch it at least once a year, and actually just watched it earlier in the day and then watched Hesher.

Pretty cool post, when I had just been thinking that!
