Can anyone pls tell me how is the ending to be interpreted??

My understanding is that she was ready to leave her husband for him, but he was not willing to leave his children, so she left him at the airport. Her removing the earrings and crying told me she had ended their relationship.

That's my take anyway.

He was in the washroom and it appeared he wanted to stay there until she'd left. Sensing this, and knowing his reluctance to abandon the children, she left. Removing the earrings indicated she was willing to forget him.

I like the ambiguity of the ending. Did she leave him at the airport? Or did he leave her by staying in the bathroom long enough for her to split?

I think they answered the question of what more do you want by choosing that they didn't want any more than they had. She to have her children with Alessio and he to be with his family.

I feel she just decided she had enough of being second to his family and even though it hurt her she was willing to make his choice for him and end it. Her long time boyfriend said he would give her time to sort it out, so I would guess she stayed with him. I felt his part was vastly absent by not showing how she had been lying to him while we saw what the other wife's reaction was. I so badly wanted to see there reconnection if there even was one. One last point I don't feel she ended it because of her boyfriend or her lover but for her lovers kids.

It is so hard to say.

From one stand-point, she wants to leave him. Staying will hurt the children, and the situation is very difficult for him. But this happened earlier in the movie, where she was ready to move on. Also, same thing happened with him, where he was ready to move on (dumped her in the car). But, they ended up together, as the love between them was so strong that they would miss each other so badly after a few days and couldn't take it anymore.

It is so hard to say what would happen, and that is why situations like these are nightmare in real life. What would she do? Go back to the boring life she had, with the boring husband? That won't happen; she will hate herself for settling for a meager existence.

On the other hand, he no longer has feelings for his wife. Will he decide to stay with her because it provides a healthy environment for the children to grow up? It's possible, but he will hate his life and I don't see their marriage working out. He will compare what he has with her with the red hot passion with Anna and won't be able to settle.

I believe the pain will draw them together. They realize that they cannot live without one another. They will make it work; it won't be easy but I don't believe they are the types of people who are content with mere existence.

Wow. What a movie. Incredible.

These answers are all so interesting and it's amazing how many different view points there are.

I don't agree about his avoiding her by staying in the bathroom. He was smiling and though his smile faded, I don't believe for a second that he was not planning to rejoin her. For me, his smile showed how happy he was with her and the fading of the smile signified the reality of having to going home, and return to his real, unhappy, life and not this fantasy with Anna. That's my interpretation of it.

As for Anna, I think she was going back to what was stable. Two hours a week was just not enough and that's more than a little understandable. Besides, I really think Alessio seemed to love her unconditionally anyway. I don't think I could say the same about Domenico.

I do believe Domenico cared about her, but it was more of an escape for him. His life was chaotic and stressful, he was having to face financial problems and a wife who resented their financial state. His time with Anna was freedom from all of that.

Anna on the other hand wanted to be wanted. Alessio was very placid and she needed, or rather thought she needed, intensity. An affair with a married man gave her that fervor that she believed she needed.

In the end, it was a learning experience for her. She had to learn that though love can be passionate, passion is not always love.

Well said and very close to my take on the situation. I enjoyed this movie and the ending was good. You summarized it well paasion is not always love. I do believe that she was more than an escape for Domenico, she was passion too and gave him what was missing in his marriage. They both wanted the passion they lacked and craved and maybe it grew to be something more.

I agree that she was trying to be done with it, as her actions demonstrated.
However, if we are to follow what occurred previously, I would find it likely that he texted her at some point.

How she handled it from there is anyone's guess.

The guy called her husband a saint, he sent her back to him as he knew he could never measure up to him. He pushed her back to him because he knew he was best for her as she came to realize herself. The removing the earrings was the symbolic point of the film. She was done with him and back to trying to find the more simple things in life are better. Watch her as she looks at the couple doing something mundane as cleaning the rug near the end, she went back to this life. It was who she really was.

all of that it makes sense of the story, I just did not like the end, I liked the movie, I didn't like the end of it...I think it could be done more emotional
