Lingering questions

I hope these questions aren't too naïve but I really didn't follow and would be grateful to anyone who can clear them up for me:

1) What is Viorel's relationship to Pusa? Since he seems to accuse her husband of trying to usurp his (Viorel's) father's position, I thought Pusa might be his sister but I can't be sure. If that were right, it would be odd for his little girl to refer to her as "Pusa" rather than as her aunt.

2) Is Viorel really terminally ill like he tells the schoolteacher? This would provide some rationale for his cutting loose but is there anything in the film that directly validates his claim?

3) Who's the (former?) employee at the fashion shop whom Viorel tries to ferret out in such a bizarre manner?

reply

It is a very vague film. It is also difficult hold one's interest because of the pace.
I think Pusa is his mother.

When bathing in the earlier part of the film Viorel touches near his groin as if there were pain. It is never made clear if he were really ill.

As for the former employee at the fashion shop I don't remember it being clarified.

Thanks. At least I'm glad to know I'm not the only bewildered by this film.

1) I thought Pusa was definitely his older sister, living where their parents used to (hence his remark to her boyfriend that if anyone else owned the place, it was him). It didn't strike me as odd that his daughter used just "Pusa."

2) At the time, I thought he was planning to kill himself, since we did see him checking to see if the gun was the right length. Hence, he's "terminal." The decision to turn himself in (instead) may have come later, after interacting with his daughter.

3) I think that may be unanswerable.

I have several other questions, but I'm going to fast-forward through the movie again looking for clues before I bring them up.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.
