This is the story of Edmond, an elderly man dealing with his continuous loss of freedom from the conventions of old age. Not only does he constantly resist his son’s encouragement to enter into a retirement home, but Edmond also refuses assistance from his young house nurse, Rose. Yet after a dangerous fall, Edmond is forced to look to her for support. As he grows to accept and rely on Rose for care, he slowly realizes she is also struggling to let go of her own nostalgic memories. Edmond realizes he is not the only one who is avoiding the hardship of reality and becomes her support. Together they grow dependent on one another and find the understanding they have been deprived of from the rest of the world.
