Hit the right nerve, in just the right way. 2 Thumbs Up!

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! I recommend it, but only to people who have the time to actually pay attention to the entire thing. The kids can't be running in and out (not recommended for small children), you can't be talking on the phone or (I'm guilty of this next one, at times) talking through the movie. Watch it. Jump when you're supposed to, and laugh it off... and keep going. Laugh at Cloris Leachman and Bev Appleton! At first, it SEEMS like a pointless meandering blob of nothingness, but it does actually come to fruition. And what a great pay off! It's beautiful, and frightening.

This movie really hits a nerve, for me, as I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and we didn't have a perfect family life (of course, it was nothing like this kid is dealing with, either). I felt powerless, and afraid of everything. I was actually afraid of my own shadow. Which is why I feel I understand where the boy is coming from in his irrational fears. (we all grow out of the fear of the monster under the bed, eventually.) I am so glad this was not handled in a more heavy handed way. The mirth and darkness of this movies are less in lighting, more in the script and the creepy way some characters interact (not saying any more, on that subject, for fear of spoiling it).

The name of the movie comes from the family's last name: Field. Therefore, their family is called the Fields. As in, all the the folks who have the last name Field....

Again, I loved this movie! I like that it starts out a lot like real life, and continues on in the same manner. For me, that is what sometimes makes it so creepy.

Happy watching!
