7.2?????

WTH! This is easily one of the best southern crime genre films I have seen in many years. Once again IMDB shows how penile member votes can be and how meaningless they really are. Garbage like Twilight wasn't much lower in score than this masterful work of hillbilly horror.

Twilight is rated 5.2. That's a pretty big difference.

reply

It's a 10 for me. I'd give it a 20 if I could.

What?

Penile member votes? You sure you got that right? I know there's a lot of d!cks around here but wow.

But on topic a 7.2 is a great score. This movie is rather slow at parts so anyone with a short attention span might not appreciate this film. And Twilight would be a 3 if not for the preteen fan base rating it a 10.

reply

Yes that is low. I would give it a 7.9.

7.2 is actually quite a good score on IMDb.

7.2 is a good score. I tend to think of 7-8 as "very good" and 8+ as "excellent".

Since I rated it a 7, I'd agree with the aggregate; if I were allowed to rate films by decimal places, I'd probably put it at a 7.5, but that's still around 7.2.

My reason? I thought it was a very good mystery/ thriller, but that it didn't hook me in as fully as the top films of the genre. If you think about something like The Third Man, another search for a missing man with sinister criminal plots oozing in through the shadows, Winter's Bone falls far below.

It's got excellent cinematography, great atmosphere, and good performances, but it just didn't stick with me or pull me in as fully as I'd have liked.

"Very good", not "excellent".

reply

Yea right. With so many good movies with low scores. I’m surprised this is as high as a 7.
