Every frame is stunning and every scene well-acted... a must see series

Not only that its pace is 'normal' (as in not fast and furious) so actors have time to express and emote and we, as the audience, have time to feel included. Most importantly its the story that's violent, and no I haven't finished it, but it isn't graphic like most of these thrillers can be. It's beyond visually stunning. It is breathtakingly beautifully shot in places that are amazingly incredible with cast and crew including where they are as part of how the story pans out in all its stunning sunny majestic glory.

I found the scenes in Cairo annoying. Other than the stock images it was all wrong. That pokey building that was supposed to be the British Consulate, where he just walked through an iron gate with one soldier at the door, nonsense. I've worked at the BC in Cairo for 32 years! You have to give up your ID, to a security guard behind bullet proof glass before you are allowed to approach the entrance, the BC is a sprawling villa set in impressive landscaping in the middle of Garden City. He says the hotel is on the Corniche, yet the exterior is in the middle of the buildings, the Corniche is on the banks of the Nile.

but of course most people would not know what the real British consulate in Cairo looks like.

Most people won't know the geography of Cairo or the security arrangements.

I am sure they spent millions on this series,I loved it.

They have to make stuff for people in general, not for people who know about the locations or background.

But it couldn't have hurt to try and make it a bit more close to reality. A google search of images of the BC in Cairo, would cost nothing.

Agreed.
Really well done show.
Just the right length too.

And all of this just saddens me that IMDb has to eliminate FILM message boards. Why not just disable the off topic ones? I guess they don't want to employ humans to moderate any longer?

Felt underwhelmed by Hugh Laurie's performance. Seemed to be walking through it at times. Never felt he was really a menace or that the character was really having a good time with his life.

A great series indeed

I watched this when it first aired, and really liked it. Just started it up again and I think it holds up. It's an excellent first episode, immediately engaging and does a good job introducing most of the characters.
