I mean both films have so many similarities and yet one gets criticized harshly and one gets called the best summer blockbuster ever. I don't get it I actually enjoy Dark of The Moon more than both Avengers films but I never say that Avengers are the worst movies ever made. Realistically the only real major difference between the films is one is geared towards "all ages" and the other is geared towards a more mature older audience.
shareBoth have there faults. Avengers has far more interesting characters with far better dialogue and the story whilst flawed is far less so then any of the Transformer films. Likewise whilst both have a lot of action, Avengers does a far better job of making the different action scenes feel notably different, whereas many find Transformers to be just lots of explosions as actions scenes with no characters to make you care.
The humor is also far more restrained and amusing then Transformers which is clearly just trying to pander to the lowest common denominator. Avengers also feels like people want from its source material, something the Transformers films often don't with there american pie-esque humor thrown in. The later half of this film is more or less more in line with the tone people seem to want from these films. Something they tried to do with the forth film, but failed at doing well.
That is why people hold Avengers in higher regard.

I would also say that Avengers gives the audience more of what they came for: Avengers.
Transformers has far too much focus on the humans. Imagine if for a big chunk of Avengers, we followed Coulson and some Shield agents around and the Avengers only showed up for action scenes.
