Why not force the Academy to have a black nomination each year?

I mean seriously, the black community want affirmative action implemented for the Oscars. If there isn't a black nomination among the 5 best actor or 5 best actress category, black people get upset... and not rightfully so.

Affirmative action forces colleges and universities to accept under qualified students based on the color of their skin, why not force the Oscars to nominate people based on skin color? Don't stop there, force the NFL teams hiring coaches or executives to interview black candidates... oh wait, that already happens with the Rooney Rule.

Black people don't want to be discriminated based on skin color but they expect special treatment based on skin color. They call it diversity. Call it diversity if you want, it is still based on skin color... not qualifications.

I'm not sure I fully understand your post. Is the information based on facts and statistics from a reliable source or your personal opinion? How can you place ALL black people under the same umbrella? All blacks don't care about a system such as this not being fair. Trust there are more important things than these. As far as forcing affirmative action is concerned, if racism, which blacks clearly did not create wasn't so deeply rooted in history, there wouldn't be a need for affirmative action.

It doesn't make sense to suggest blacks feel a sense of entitlement and that special treatment should be applied. If the academy presents an award based on affirmative means, the award means nothing. Why would any confident, strong minded intelligent and respectable person want an award they didn't really win? The academy can keep it, no one collects "tokens" anymore.

All black people are not going to accept the idea of being too dumb to realize it's a sh*tty ass token nomination or token award. The only thing the majority of blacks feel entitled to is fair treatment NOT special treatment. Fairness which doesn't necessarily mean always winning or receiving a prize, a job, an award, schooling, etc. (especially if they've worked just as hard as anyone who isn't black and are indeed qualified)

There are plenty of blacks that are qualified, sometimes overly qualified but racism throws water on that fire out of fear before it even starts to burn. One's qualifications cannot be displayed if they're rejected upon sight (of being black) How does any one know the qualifications of another by just looking at them?

Affirmative Action should be applied only where necessary and imo, nonapplicable in the protest of the Oscars. It has not one fiber of importance to me as the vibe of your post wrongfully suggests the inclusion of ALL blacks. I'm not speaking for or about ALL black people and neither should you.

Job opportunities, college, corporate positions and the like, it's a shame "the powers that be" have to be "made" to implement fairness due to very pronounced racism, and not qualification of the applicant. I don't think an under qualified person should be chosen for anything but that's due to qualification not race. I'm not at all interested in playing this "diversity" game. Nothing will ever be resolved if the entity of racism is always sugar coated, provided a cushion and through pure cowardice, renamed "diversity". This is all to soften blows to the academy.

It's simply cowardice to refrain from reality and not call things what they really are. Its unfortunate but that's how it is when the foundation of most systems have been built on and set into motion by racism. Its just impossible to appreciate the notion that black people are hallucinating when racism isn't really there. Stop insulting the intellect of blacks by suggesting racism is all in the mind when you know that's not true.

As I have said in many other posts I don't care at all about the Oscars, I never have becuz they've NEVER been fair. Straight Outta Compton is a brilliant film but how many people on the board or voting committees for the Oscars do you think knows NWA or Eazy E? How would they know what they meant to audiences and fans they catered to? Without knowing any of these things, how could it be expected they'd know Jason Mitchell's perfect, spot on portrayal of Eazy E deserves at least a nomination for an Oscar?

I'm not at all appreciative of how the issue of "diversity" is being attached to a very fine film. Why pick now to yell about racism (that isn't going anywhere) when protest on the matter should've taken place decades ago?

No one should be considered for an award or category based on skin color BUT THEY ARE and you should be honest enough to admit that becuz I feel like you along with many others know better. Awards should be presented only to those that deserve it, NOT for race but contributions and accomplishments but do the Oscars know that? Of course they do but they'll never fully express it. Due to racism, not "diversity" they are incapable of representing blacks in the same light as everyone else. They are incapable of distinguishing fair treatment from special treatment and incapable of knowing the difference between a demand for fairness and entitlement. Incapable minds are so sad. Be honest.

A standardized forced win isn't a real win. Why go through all that when all the academy needs to do is play fair? (which they have made themselves incapable of doing) There are reasons and places where affirmative action is mandatory and should be applied but as stated before, the Oscars
DO NOT APPLY. Nonapplicable.

I don't feel like intelligent blacks (even the one's that are complaining) are going to be acceptable of that. I know I wouldn't as I feel your suggestion is an insult to black intelligence. You can't just make some sloppy offer and think that's the solution. The only solution I see is fair judgment on fair competition. The Oscars are not capable (or not willing to be capable) of that. I feel the situation with this "diversity" issue is irreparable. Nobody wants to be honest about the problem that's posed and some sloppy standardized patch up quick fix is the solution of a coward.

Black person here:

I like the idea of accepting a certain amount of black people to a school. You shouldn't displace more qualified white candidates with less qualified black ones, though. I personally received a Pell Grant. That was critical for me to go to school in the first place. I am smarter than most people so it's not like some genius had to sit out for me to go.

I realize that explaining this to you is like explaining it to a person who only speaks Korean but here goes:

You are so worried about more qualified white students missing out but white supremacy says that you would give the least qualified white person in the world a spot before you would a black genius.

IF YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO DISAGREE WITH THIS, JUST LOOK AT THE CURRENT 2016 PRESIDENTAIL RACE.

Trump is the least qualified of the whole lot. The people that like Trump hate Obama. They don't care that Obama is multiple times more intelligent than Trump. Obama could raise someone from the dead and they'd find it offensive. Obama getting out of bed in the morning is offensive to these people.

A black person has zero chance getting a spot if a white supremacist gets to choose.

And so, too, with the award show.

I could give two fux less about the awards. Keep them. The fact still remains that they gave Sly an award and everyone totally overlooked the titular character and the director. So Sly comes along and gives this stunning performance in the middle of this movie that had nothing else at all going for it... Sure.

Hi "Black person here", I'm a white person here, and I think you're not quite as intelligent as you claim to be.... in fact, I'm thinking you are the kind of black person that would call me a "racist" just because I don't like Obama. I did not vote for the man, but when he won, I hoped he would do a good job... I was very disappointed and I say so; often. I have been called "racist" because of it.... I don't think that makes too much sense when the person I would really like to see get the presidency is not just "half black", but 100% black; Ben Carson.

I think that I came up with a solution to the problem that is the only realistic problem that satisfies all sides (although I'm sure would still piss off some people):

Hollywood, Hollywood's Elite, the big studios, Broadway, and the networks need to come together a fund a major well publicized and notorious non-profit that starts programs across the country to get at risk children from low income families in black and Hispanic children enrolled in programs that educate them on arthouse film and theatre and gets them involved creating short films and plays of their own.

The problem is not necessarily that voters are racist, the problem is that those who win awards at the highest level have been groomed for it by the time that they were children. And quite often, children in at risk homes are not into arthouse film or theatre. Additionally, those living in poor areas do not watch arthouse film or support local theatre or buy Broadway tickets, so the studios have no reason to make films for them.

My solution would create a talent base that would bring intense new ideas into both industries, and cultivate a huge customer base that was never there before. It would be expensive, but I think that the pay-off would be high, and would allow the elites to save face and offer a solution that people could sink their teeth into that wouldn't be affirmative action.

The cost would also be low considering that it would take funding from many sources, and eventually could also rely on federal and local government grants. I'd imagine that many corporate sponsors would love to have their name attached to it and love to have the free sponsorship with the elites.

One of the hooks would be for every Academy member to be to be a part of the 5/50 club, or the 50/50 club if you're an A-lister. The 5/50 club meaning donating at least $5,000 a year and 50 hour their time a year, and the 50/50 club meaning donating at least $50,000 a year and 50 hours of their time a year. The hours coming from promotional, operational, writing curricular, filming webcasts, giving speeches, running seminars, teaching classes, or making surprise appearances.

It would be a big project, but this is the kind of stuff that many of "White Sports" like baseball is doing to help promote their sport to lower income areas.

I agree with the OP
It's analogous to handicapped parking spots.
If the disabled had to fight the whole way, they would never make it to the mall.
It's the only way to equality.

No need to that's why there are award shows each year in order to recognize people of color. And when I say color that means black, brown, yellow. The Oscars are not just about black people not being nominated it's about women behind the scenes of the camera, women directors. People of "COLOR" that looks like the world different colors that's all it's not that hard people.

Then the gays will want theirs. Then the Jews. Then the blondes, then the fat bald guys, etc etc etc.

Stop this left side thinking. I'm sorry, but basing qualifications on skin color, is that not the definition of racism? Ironic. Sounds like it to me you hypocrite.

They should be nominated if they earn it, not get an automatic nomination each year. That would cheapen those blacks who truly were worthy of a nomination.

this.
