Confused

Why wouldn't Ice Cube sign the contract from the very beginning? Why did he think he would have gotten a 75K check from Heller when he hadn't even signed the contract? Even if I went to work each day without signing any paperwork, I wouldn't get a cent! Was there proof that Heller stole money from NWA or was it just speculation?
