I agree. I am somewhat disturbed by the 'reality-tv' approach taken by the producers of this documentary, considering the enormous amount of resources alleged devoted this programme (see end credits). I suspect already that the series may have been dumbed down too much and will leave me wanting answers that are not going to be provided here. I may have to revisit the local public libary in search of the facts that may not get covered in this series.
In the first episode, "Out of Africa", much is made of the fact that we are all descended from roots of our ancestors. It was a shame that the human genome project (DNA research) was barely referenced in reaching the hypothesis, and I suspect this may have been edited out. The fact was presented as a 'fait acompli', but not how it got there. Instead we are shown a group of people of various nationalities and cultures nodding their heads and expressing surprise.
We could have been spared the 5 mins. or so of Dr. Alice Roberts spending the night alone in the bush expressing her feelings of what she thought our ancestors may have experienced, I would have preferred the producers to have taken a different tack to this potentially brilliant series.
Anyway, thanks heavens I am watching it on DVD, as I have four more episodes to go, and can only hope that it will improve in the quality of the content.
