horrible

god awful, the fact that steinbauer teaches a course in film is astounding.

complete crap

Not at all. I love documentary films, and this is one of the better ones in recent years. I really don't know what more you could ask for, regarding this subject.

reply

Yeah. Great film, but, ifn you don't like it, just turn it off, pal.

F•ck, god damn critics.

reply

Nice detailed critique. To me, this was the most entertaining documentary I've seen in a while. Its definitely as good as Exit Through The Gift Shop. It reminds me a bit of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

reply

fist full of quarters! Easily the best and funniest Doc I've watched! This comes close, great Documentary.

Still to watch Exit Through the Gift Shop, I really need to, as I've seen Banksy's work on the streets of London, so I feel I need to watch it!

reply

I found King of Kong to be way better. The story was much more compelling and the characters more interesting.

reply

utterly ridiculous comment - this is a really enjoyable film, don't be put off by this

reply

COuldnt agree more. I loved the film. I watch a documentary a week and this is the best one I have seen all year. Fantastic!

i agree. is this seriously what future film makers are watching to learn from. the same sh** jackoffs on youtube watch? rebneys right the country is going to sh**.

reply

Sounds like someone failed the class that this guy teaches lol.

reply

I fully agree with you, OP. The fact that so few people understand why, is the main reason why western society is going to sh*t. I felt sorry for Mr Rebney. I wish for him he could've said what he wanted to say.

reply

I also agree with the OP. I don't know how people enjoy this - at 85 minutes it's still padded to death, and the director is more interested in making a film about himself than he is in the ostensible subject. I feel Rebney was used and presented in humiliating fashion in this "film." Those idiots at the FFF thought they were really clever giving a blind man a plastic flyswatter, too. It was painful to watch Rebney hold that thing during the ensuing shots.

Pretty wretched. The old clips are of course a gold mine, but this film exploits everything about them to death.

The proof that this film is about the director lies in a cutaway to the director's bare feet. His feet are bare several times in the film, but during that terrible sequence where he's in his [typical] Austin apartment ["it's like spare and minimalist and you can tell I'm an aesthete because I have a painting of a lawnmower on my wall"] pretending to talk to Rebney on the phone (so clearly phony and shot to make a montage) there is a cutaway to the guy's feet and he stands there with the phone. Who would do this? Who would force an audience to look at his own bare feet? Tarantino doesn't include his own feet in films, and he's both a narcissist and a foot fetishist. So what does that make this guy? Totally clueless if you ask me.

The synopsis for this documentary didn't sound very interesting and I wondered what angle the film would take to make it compelling and worthy of being made...sadly, the answer was nothing.

I have nothing against Steinbauer, but his obsession with Jack really clouded his judgement if he believed Jack would be a fascinating subject to focus on.

This is a faithful saying...Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

As a person who makes his own films, videos (I make my own shorts and I do wedding tapes) he made a good documentary, the shots looked fine, the editing was crisp too. You may not like the content but that doesn't make Steinbauer a bad filmmaker and I can see him teaching film.
