Is he gay?

His marriage was mentioned briefly, which he didn't want to talk about. His friend, who seemed very gay, appeared to be dropping innuendo about Jack's sexuality.

reply

Not that it make a difference either way but I was wondering this too.

Pretty sure there was or had been a "realtionship" there. Just saying, not that there's anything wrong with that.

reply

Seemed really out of character for the worlds angriest man to let some random dude live in his house. And that guy did seem pretty gay.

I wonder why people say this if someone is suspected of being gay, but not if they're heterosexual. Because he could have two wives and people would want to know about it and how it all happened.

reply

Your totally right. His "friend" was acting super duper ultra gay. I'm pretty sure when he hugged him at the end, he said "I'll see you back here once the cameras are gone"

Not that theres anything wrong with that. People's personal sexual preferences are nobody's business but their own.

reply

thought he was obviously gay.

Yes, typical closeted homosexual. The anger issue is right on par. Many homosexuals have mental issues due to the way society treats them.

No, I am not a homophobe, I have a few gay friends and they're not all happy and one is up for an intervention, already in the works.

It's also true with transsexuals. You've never met some people who are so angry and bitter in your entire life. I try to stay away from most of them.

lol, it's like a programmed response, some people seem to need to say that every time they say the word "gay". it's a bit like muslims who say "mohammed" and who immediately have to say "praised be his name".

i just find it funny to see how many times this has been said in this thread, no offense to anyone. :D

and by the way, his friend was definitely gay (it's not just his glasses of wine, but the wool sweater he wore, and the way he sat drinking - and all those looks he gave jack) i'm almost sure jack was gay or bi, and since he's such an old fashioned angry guy who obviously doesn't like change or anything different, i doubt he'd hang out with a gay guy if he wasn't gay himself. and being straight myself, i can tell you that it's kind of unusual for two straight guys to call each other every day for no reason.

the way the filmmaker just completely ignored that aspect of jack tells me that he didn't want to reveal too much of his personal life, so yeah, probably gay...

if he's not gay, then it was certainly confusing to see him walking in a san francisco park with his hand on a gay man's shoulder! ...not that there's anything wrong with that, lol

They are just having fun with the Seinfeld joke, nothing political about it.

reply

I assumed that these two men had a previous or current relationship during filming. The hand on the shoulder, however, is pretty normal in assisting a sight-impaired individual. They seemed to gloss over the cause of Jack's visual difficulties.

Great film!

The biggest give away was the restaurant they specifically visited in Redding, CA, called The Sausage Factory. The blatant shots of Ben's reaction to the name and then the lingering shot of the sign are tells too.

I swear to God if they made a documentary about the late Mother Teresa, some idiot on this forum would ask whether she was gay.

reply

His pilot buddy seems pretty gay. Red wine, stand-alone mustache and i'm pretty sure he called Jack "poopsy-kins" or something similar.

reply

Jack Rebney wouldn't be somebody you would immediately think of as a gay man but it takes all sorts as they say. It's really none of our business anyway but it's understandable that there would be speculation with the warmth and tenderness that obviously existed between them, the back story of the friendship and, yes, that guy's feminine tendencies.

Could you imagine Jack's profane verbiage in sexually intimate situations?

Now why would you go and put that image in my head?!

reply

Not if I don't want to spend the rest of the afternoon masturbating furiously.

Too late.

He also said something about, "where do you want these - aside from up your ass", when he brought the wind chimes to Jack's house.

Absolutely. It probably says more about the OP's asking the questions than it does the people they're inquiring about.

I realize that plenty of gay men, especially from older generations when they were more closeted, have been married with kids. But still. Jack was married. And had kids. Or at least *a* kid; his son is a big shot in the world of MMA, running a successful promotion company.

In any case, this documentary really didn't tell us much of anything about Rebney personally.

Well, that is the very question I came here for. His pilot friend is uber-gay. He mentions Jack let him "live" with him, the Village People moustache, the faux-turtleneck sweater, the wine...gay. So I thought, maybe Jack is bitter and angry because he is in the closet, or refuses to accept that he is gay, hence he lives alone in the mountains. I thought this might be a good reason for his anger and resentment. Plus, he is from another generation, another time, when to be gay was very taboo. Interesting discussion.
