All the adults in the movie are creepy

what was up with that pharmacist guy

and all the parents are a bit off, the bully's dad, the arm cast kid's mom, beverly's dad

pennywise was the sanest of them all haha

You can say it was all a part of Pennywise’s game.

For example, there’s the scene in which the couple drives by as Ben is being harmed; they do absolutely nothing to help the kid. And then as they drive away, a red balloon pops up. That was IT leaving its mark. In other words, It was able to make the adults not care about the bad things happening in the town. Eddie’s mom obviously cared for her son but she was a bit nutty.

Some of the adults were much worse than the others, although something was clearly off about every one of them. This was mostly a result of It having a malign influence over the entire town, ergo the Losers Club knew only they could fight this supernatural being.

This is from the book. The adults in town didn’t seem to care. If you watch the mini series it’s addressed too by Mike. Adults have grown almost immune to the troubles of in town.

Was I the only one who thought the protective mother and the creepy girl who signed the kid's cast both looked a bit like Pennywise? Like as if he was posessing them or something. Look at the creepy girl's eyes.

reply

The pharmacist too.

It was part of the genearl theme to have the adults be indifferent and dysfunctional, disabling the children and feeding fear and hatred into Pennywise's power. The town's history and spate of disappearances reinforced the adult's behaviour.

The book has a sequence where Pennywise "possesses" Bev's father and he chases her for miles all over the town, and she's running for her life and she sees the mad look in his eyes. It was really hair-raising for the fact that he was intent on raping her if he caught her.

reply

He was intent on raping her in the movie too when he chased her through the house before she kills him. In the novel I dont think he had a history of molesting her unlike the movie. Btw I wonder how they explained the murder of her dad. I mean what do people think happened.

reply

Why do people insist that Bev killed her father? He was still alive when Bill found him and saw Pennywise's threat! It didn't happen in the book!

I suppose you'll say next why did Henry Bowers have to die? HE DIDN'T. He'll be back in Chapter 2.

reply

No see I believe indeed henry did not die because he is too integral and needs to be a part of the next segment. I never swore up and down that bev killed her dad when she hit him but if so it would not be surprising.

reply

Btw if it's true that penny wise indeed did possess bev's dad and was causing his disgusting behavior then that is scary as hell. I get he was influencing adults to a certain degree such as the red balloon in the car scene not helping Ben who was in serious trouble. But the idea the evil in Derry could go so far as influencing bevs dad to that degree is terrifying when you think about it.

reply

I can't remeber, but did the book ever explain the aftermath of Bev's ordeal? This took the same day and right before their first showdown with Pennywise, so what happened when she returned home? Was everything normal as if it never happened?

reply

When you say the ordeal with bevs dad do you mean the scene in the movie where he obviously comes after her and she hits hit in the head with the toilet lid? In the novel at one point he comes after her and it's much scarier he chases her through the city but I cannot remember if this happens immediately before their encounter with penny wise in the cave like it does in the movie. In the movie yeah i wonder what did happen after their encounter with penny wise. It's funny I assumed she did indeed kill him in self defense and at some point this was proven with the police we just never saw any of the details in the movie. If she did not kill him with the toilet lid in the movie then wow i wonder what the situation would have been like after. She obviously went to live with her aunt. Now in the book there is also never any follow up regarding bev as a child when she went back home to her dad after killing pennywise. It's never even stated that she went to live with an aunt I dont think she left Derry until years later. But the toilet lid hit to the head never happened in the book.

I was talking about the book. In the book I thought that some of the things that occured were really her fathers own feelings and that he really did see her playing with the boys and smoking. The more violent aspects seemed to be the resulting of some influencing from Pennywise, but not totally overtaking his mind only highlighting his worse qualities. But if she returned home and everything was normal then I suppose it was all pennywise. But I have no memory of what came after the showdown in the sewers.

The chase in the book occured before she and Ben sought shelter in the clubhouse as Henry was pursuing them. Henry could not find them and was not aware they were right under the area they were standing on. After leaving to warn the other losers they are spotted by henry and after regrouping with the other 5 they eventually end up in the sewers with Henry after them. I recall the book saying her mother died before she finished High school and she left and never returned to Derry or see her father.
