The REAL reason why Cary left...

I haven't read it yet, but from what I'm hearing from the ones who read it, I'm starting to speculate the REAL reason why Cary left. People was saying it was from offensive sexual natures and someone came up with their reasons, and that article of Cary explaining why he left and at the same time, calling out New Line, it really was "creative differences" but more as him shying away from the source material too much, New Line didn't like that I guess they really wanted to follow more of the book. People was losing their mind and hope on the film because the studio "fired him" (not true), one of the most talented, acclaimed directors in the film industry and hired a "decent" director who did a short and full length critically liked film that people talks sh!t just cause of Fukunaga. At least, Muschietti is more of a fan of the book that Fukunaga or somewhat respects it. Didn't Fukunaga say it himself at one point that he didn't think the fans wouldn't like what he did with the script. I mean, it didn't have to be scene by scene but at the same time, don't drastically change stuff around just cuz, my opinion, you feel like it's not organic enough or the characters are too archetypes and conventional and choosing more of your eventful childhood memories to the source material would be more positively responded bcuz your a well known talented director. Mind as well just remake the miniseries than adapted the source material. But from the reception of the script is somewhat mixed, now people praying for Muschietti to do a better job. I hope so.

Offensive sexual natures?

Whatever you are, be a good one.

At one point he wrote a bunch of strange things into the script for shock value. For example, he penned a scene where Henry *beep* one of the sheep on Mike's farm. He also wanted the sewer sex scene to be in the movie.

I'm not trying to *beep* on Cary, I'm just saying, some of his ideas were strange.

reply

I support these scenes being included in the movie.

To be fair, *beep* is exactly what I would expect from an 80's Stephen King book. Cocaine is a helluva drug.

Yeah, the script did read more like Cary's own childhood as opposed to being adapted from the SK story at some points for sure. He might have been better off changing the characters and story around, and trying to make this movie as his own original story instead of trying to make it as a King adapted film.

I gotta say, I love his characterization of Richie and Beverly. Everyone else was kinds forgettable

reply

Beverly was probably my favorite in that version. Richie, though one of my favorite characters, seemed to annoy me with all his videogame references (but that's probably just because I didn't grow up a gamer, so I didn't follow most of it.)

His script wasn't good enough

yeah the *beep* of the sheep was bizarre really and def a NC17 rating right there no studio would touch that so no wonder he left.

I respect his integrity for wanting to shoot his vision but going over board too much really wouldnt have worked.

Now i do understand what he ment when he said.

I dont really think you can make a UNCONVENTIONAL Movie based off a stephen king book. No I get what he means he simply meant the studio didnt like his bizare sex ideas in the script haha
