shareI have to admit the Taco Bell drive through scene was the funniest part of a truly sad and depressing documentary. What I don't understand is the fact that Kirk snorted Xanex in her hospital room shortly after giving birth to Monica and they are surprised that CPS took the baby?!?!?! Really? No one should be surprised. I think Mamie said it best when she said "they probably found drugs in it". No telling what she drank, snorted, and/or popped while she was pregnant. I will give Kirk credit for going to rehab. Hopefully she can keep it up and end up being a good mother to her children.

She's been out for awhile, she is out of Boone County and trying to keep it together. Has relationships with her kids, and is still close to the rest of the family ... just not in the same town. Thinking she finally figured out she has to keep out of Boone County to stay clean, and so far so good. :-)

I don't think we could be categorized as hicks. My father and my uncle graduated from the University of South Carolina; my father is a mechanical engineer, retiring from Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. I think it goes along with the whole Sue Bob thing. That's not her real name, but everyone calls her that. Why? Who knows! It just kind of flows a certain way that their accents compliment. Kind of like Shaniqua or Lashawn. It goes along with the way they speak.

I wonder if her daughter has some kind of permanent disability because of her mother's drug abuse. And I can't believe she was only 33 (she's 36 now) in the documentary, the drugs have ruined her looks.

The prison web site says that Kirk is in prison for "Child Abuse By Parent Resulting In Injury." What exactly was this charge for? Drug abuse while she was pregnant? I would be really shocked if she physically abused her son. To me, the most striking and poignant part of the movie was the love that Kirk and her son Tyler have for each other.

The fat lady acted like she expected a prize for having the scoop on this info.
What struck me is that no one hugged Kirk or offered her any sort of comfort. Instead her own momma drives to Taco Bell and then announces it to half the restaurant. While she's still in the drive-thru lane. And they're inside. Separated by distance of several feet and a window. And you know those people couldn't figure out wth she was saying so they just kept smiling and nodding.
That was her aunt, not her mom. But yeah, I noticed that too. No comfort, just life as usual.

I love how, in that exchange about the baby, they referred to her as "it." They probably didn't see the baby as a person; they saw her as another welfare check to collect.

I've known people to refer to a new baby as 'it' because so many conversations revolving around the baby are had before the family knows the gender.
I did the same for a little while after he was born just out of habit - granted, my wife & I chose not to find out our son's gender before he was born, so we had 9 months of saying 'it' to overcome.
It was no indication of our love for him.
