Was anybody else bothered by Diego's character in the beginning ?

I liked the movie, mostly the second half, and its final message.

However, in the beginning I almost changed the TV channel, as Diego's character seemed kind of a prick and his romance with Gemma unbelievable. What bothered me most (and is the point of my question) is their first sex scene, which to me was bordering rape. I was surprised to see such a cliche about how to seduce women, probably because I had higher expectations from the movie.

Was anybody else bothered by it? I feel the romance and Diego's character could have been portrayed differently, without using such a harmful perspective (the guy's insistence, entering her room and starting to undress her even if she says no). I am curious about your opinions.

Yes he was the worst thing about the movie.

Yes , I had the exact feelings about Diego at the beginning.

He looks like a complete prick. He was definitely in the borders of rape as he entered the room, and jumped on Gemma.

I was very disturbed, and was not happy about the very awkward style of starting a romance that would last near a life time. Looked and felt very very illogical even.

Bordering rape?

That was rape.

And I'm not even one of these namby pamby liberal types calling everything rape, but she clearly said no repeatedly and he forced himself on her.

But hell, after watching "Elle" last week, nothing could glorify rape as much as that.
