Any ideas about Diego's subtle grin with the psychologist? ***SPOILER

Hi all,

Across the entire film we are definetely sure about Diego's desire of a child. I have no disagreements on that, but what I'm searching for, is this; I presumed that when Diego receives information from the psychologist about them being rejected about adopting a child there is a subtle evilish grin on Diego's face which is seen around 38 and 39th minutes.

Still he wanted a child, no matter what his looks are at that moment.

But I understood that scene as one of a lot more which intended to put some more doubt in the viewers mind.

By adding another question, ” Could've Diego set the psychologist up to say those words, or did he have anything to do with the fertility problem of Gemma. ”

I know in the end there is no such information or result to interpret Diego was evil or anything.

But I had a feeling that, too add an extra doubt to the viewers thoughts, that grin was implanted in that scene.

What would your comments be on this issue?

Ps : Please watch the grinning scene, my whole discussion is based on that rather than anything else.

I noticed the grin and think yes it was on purpose on Diego's part. The character had a lot of problems. Maybe he wanted to be done with the situation. But, also I noticed the actors (Hirsch) facial expressions in a few scenes were off. Like when Gojco's mother gives birth to her daughter near the beginning of the film. He is watching Gemma hold the baby and instead of having a sweet look on his face he looks demented. Diego's character is a bit off like someone mentioned on another post the first time Gemma and he have sex he is a tad forceful is a nice way of putting it. I also really feel after a while he tires of Gemma and the character reminds me of the one played by Bradley Cooper in a movie called Serena. He fools around with a one of the maids she has his kid but, he later meets and marries Serena his goddess. Serena gets pregnant but, she miscarries after an accident and can no longer bare kids he suddenly now cares for the maid and the child her ignored.

I think in Twice Born Gemma mentions something about a connection between a man and a woman permanently if they have children, and Diego seems to believe this as well and finds Aska who is his age give or take, fertile and beautiful. If Aska had not been raped he would have had a child with her and forgotten Gemma (well he does any way) he was pushing her away and that deep love he went on and on about just puff went away; she goes to find him after he leaves Italy (the scenes after when Gemma's dad is buying him a bullet proof vest. then she yells at her dad 'where is he'), he wants his own kid too. He really did sabotage the adoption process, they both did only she was just tired and being honest, his story about growing up sounded a little made-up or exaggerated in terms of what the reality of his childhood really was. He was making a future with Aska but, then tragedy happened when she was raped and they all fell apart.
