This movie doesn't deserve the harsh critisim

I watched it and actually surprisingly its a good movie, probably the best megan fox movie performance I've seen since transformers. Better than jennifer's body and jonah hex. Should have been released in the theater, better than most crap thats out right now. its different. the ending was a surprise as well. good performances.

I wouldn't just overdo it like that if I simply disliked the film. I honestly think it's one of the worst films I've ever seen. Murray was solid and some of the cinematography wasn't bad. Everything about the script, directing of actors, and story structure was laughable. The ending was hysterical.

No, it's really bad. It isn't the actor's fault -- it's the writer/director who sucked. Bad writing, horrible directing, and a stupid ending that turned a bad movie into a giant waste of time.

Fox was okay, but her character just had nothing to do.

WASTE OF TIME

offered no insight to WHY he fell in love with her
Do you mean the other way around? Is it that hard to understand why a 60 year old would fall for Megan Fox?

This film is no masterpiece, but a 4.5 rating? Come on. It was a nice little modern fairy tale with somewhat clumsy metaphorical undertones and a protagonist for whom you have reason to care. Switch David Glazer's name with David Lynch, and it would be hailed as a genius masterpiece.

I like some of Lynch's work, but "Lost Highway" is a jumbled, meandering, indecipherable mess that generates zero pathos for its bland, one-note characters, and yet critics ejaculate over it simply because it bears the aforementioned filmmaker's name.

To see the only real monster, one must only look in the mirror.

reply

I seem to remember it being considered one of his more mediocre films. If Lynch would have done Passion Play, the chaos would have been on purpose and not a result of pure incompetence. It's one of the crappiest films I've seen. Why would you pick one of Lynch's least loved films as an example of people loving him?

It definitely wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen but it wasn't good. I didn't like it at all and I'd never watch it again.

reply

It's up there as one of the worst I've seen because of the fact that it's just sloppy, is badly done, boring, and the ending was just terrible. Everyone was pretty good in their own right but that wasn't enough to save it. Mitch Glazer honestly destroyed what little redeeming quality this movie could have had.

WTF? Seriously, I just watched the film, and I thought it was calm, meditative, and a sweet little film, everything about it seemed deliberate to me, and not every film needs to be laid out "big budget film" style, yeah it was quirky, that was part of the charm, and it sure as hell wasnt as pretentious as black f'ing swan, thats for sure.

I agree. This little arts movie has so much (or could have) going for it. A few tweaks in the right direction and it could have been so much better.
I love the idea of a winged girl, and Megan Fox is now forgiven in my eyes for all her previous acting inability.
Probably the worst (and best) thing for me is Micky Rourke. I always loved that guy, and felt it was such a damn shame that his acting career nosedived in the 90s and he felt compelled to return to boxing. I just wish he had left his face alone. Whoever did the plastic surgery wants shooting. Mind you, Bill Murray doesn't look much better and that's without surgery. I just can't get past how gorgeous Micky used to be and what he is now - such a sad persona exemplified in Nate.
I liked this movie. A lot.

America in the 1920's thru 1990's existed without filthy subject matter, such as
the RE:of this one....it is not needed, nor is the multiculturalism of Europe...but.
I enjoy Mickey Rourke so much that {YES}I could listen and observe the man in character for two hours.
Critics? Roger Ebert and Jack? from San Francisco only two good ones around and I think Jack ? retired or went to heaven.

reply

Agree- people are WAY to harsh on this movie. I found it to be above-average across the board, and certainly entertaining.

reply

I didn't care for the movie. However, Rourke and Murray did what they could. I thought the writing and directing was poor. It was a nifty idea. I just don't think they pulled it off very well. And I found it difficult to watch Mickey Rourke. The plastic surgeon should have his license taken away.

Should have been released in the theater

It was released in 2 theaters for one week. lol!! I'm sorry for Rourke. Looks like Megan's 15 minutes of fame is about up.

reply

Just watched it, me really like!!
Some greenscreen compositing were bad but overall real good.. Too bad it went unnoticed.

reply

I love it brilliant film !

reply

depends which one you are talking about... there were two COMPLETELY different cuts of this movie...

the first one they put out for a film festival, I think it was Toronto.. that one was literally an unwatchable mess and blew the movie out.... after that they couldn't get distribution and had to put it out on 2 screens.... ouch

after that, the director did a completely new cut and the movie became watchable.... good even....

reply

Anyone know what the differences were between the two cuts? I'd be fascinated to know- I thought the cut I saw was pretty good. I also wonder if the original cut is the explanation for the unusual amount of idiot comments on the blogs here (at least double the amount on the normal imdb blog) like..."why would Megan Fox fall in love with Mickey Rourke" (why would a beautiful woman fall in love with an old guy in his dying dream).

reply

After the debacle in Toronto and the tiny run, the first version never made it to DVD, so it's probably never going to see the light of day.... I've never seen a plot description of it and never seen a comparison of versions... so we'll probably never know

reply

also, a beautiful young girl getting involved with an older man is a great subject for movies:
- older men watch is because they dream of it or remember relationships from when they were younger
- older women watch because they like to be indignant about it
- younger women watch because they are curious about older men in real life
- younger men watch because Megan Fox is in it...

total win win win win scenario.
