About Sexual Relationship?

Is it totally forbidden for those people to have sexual relationship (if it is, don't they make child?) or is it something about the age, we know Mary was 15 when she made sex with Fergal's father? I couldn"t get these points?

I think Mary just wanted to keep him away from girls to keep the beast from coming out and, you know, making trouble for them. It wasn't forbidden by any law of theirs. Feargal's father tricked her, probably seduced her.
