ANYONE ON THIS BOARD AT ALL? lol

The only DVD available is the Japanese one but it has no subtitles. Most of the film is on YouTube with subs, but there are still 2 more parts to come. I've just watched the 9 parts so far and it's really good, pretty much on a par with Noroi.

Yeah check YouTube, but search for "The Unidentified" instead of "Occult" (maybe it's an alternate title or translation, I dunno). Just watched it last night and it's great, just like Noroi.

I didn't even know the director made any other movies besides Noroi, so I'm hoping to find the rest of his work somewhere now... I'm not sure if Occult and Noroi are the only two movies he's shot in this documentary style; does anyone know, or can anyone recommend any similar movies? (One great movie I can suggest is a Korean film called the "Haunted House Project," which is shot in the same docu-style... I found it the other day on AsianHorrorMovies).

They've named it 'The Unidentified' just to make it less likely to get removed from YouTube.

Noroi and Okaruto are the only ones he's done like that as far as I know, but in his new one 'Shirome', the girls are unaware they're starring in a horror film, so their scared reactions are genuine. I haven't seen that one yet but someone said they're planning on putting it on YouTube soon without subs, and the guy that subbed Okaruto 'may' sub it (I asked him).

The other two films by the director that I've seen are 'Ju-rei (the Uncanny)' which is very much inspired by Ju-on, and 'A Slit-Mouthed Woman' aka 'Carved' but these two aren't that good in my opinion. I've also seen his contribution to 'Dark Tales of Japan', and that was decent enough.

I'd quite like to see his 'Teketeke' films, they look cool (girls getting sliced in half and stuff) but can't find them with English subs unfortunately. And another one he's done called 'Grotesque' is meant to be a horrible torture porn type film, so I haven't bothered checking it out, it's fairly popular though.

"Occult" is a good film, but "Noroi" is better. I give "Occult" a 7, and "Noroi" an 8.

*SPOILER*

The ending was very good (probably the best representation of pseudo-Lovecraftian, existential horror I've ever seen, which is pretty impressive considering how bad some of the special effects of this film were), but one thing I don't understand: If he transported himself to that Hellish plane of existence, how did he manage to deliver the camera & the 100-yen coin to the Korean barbecue restaruant? It doesn't seem like he'd be in a position to do much of anything beyond pray for the release of sweet death, LOL.

I know, man, that didn't make any sense! I was surprised no one had a made a topic about it yet. It felt like they completely abandoned their concept and just said "what if he just ends up in hell?" but i agree, it was a cool idea having the heads floating around representing the departing energies. But why the UFOs then? Why did they make him do it? So many questions left unanswered. Lol I'm
Guessing the neon jellyfish at the end were the answer?
