I didn't like it as much as Noroi, but it was still really good!

While Noroi was my favorite of the two, I really enjoyed this. The main character was extremely well acted. I know people who are just like that, save for the bomb thing. Everything about it just came out really well. I definitely got an HP Lovecraft vibe from this movie.

yeah, I feel the lovecraftian vibe as well. Those worm like deities were *beep* creepy... and those very simple special effects made it even creepier, lurking in the sky like that, disturbing *beep* wouldn't be so scary if they turned out to be in fact the typical UFOs

*post contains spoilers, yo!*

I finally watched this after seeing Noroi a few years ago. I agree about the main character. This film really makes me think about what's going on in the world today, and people's motivations for things like suicide bombings. Eno-san was a poor guy with low self esteem who wanted to believe that he was chosen for something miraculous, when really it was something horrific. It's far creepier than Noroi in that sense if you think about it.

i like your user name / avatar i just started reading i am a hero with the darkhorse version of vol. 1 being released in april.

your post is a year old who knows if you are still active. but i just watched the movie last night, having watched noroi the night before and craving more from this guy. it definitely started to creep me out when it turns into the "ceremony" stuff - did you ever catch the british film "four lions"? it's more of a black comedy but it will put similar thoughts in your head. but yea the unknowns are what really creeped me out -- was this the work of a "god" or ancient, malevolent spirits? based off noroi's concepts i would lean towards the latter. the ideas of "worms" and snake-like apparations also dips it's toes into the realm of eldritch abominations... very cool film, although noroi did creep me out much more. i will continue through this directors works...
