Mini review

I saw the film at a tiny theater in Somerville, Massachusetts and loved it. A lot more than I thought I would. I have a love*hate relationship with MJK. I think he is an enlightened being with great ideas and his voice/lyrics have changed my life but I also think he's a complete douche bag. That aside, I am impressed. I'm not sure that a non-Tool/Maynard fan would enjoy it but I was surprisingly interested in the wine making process. This is rare as I don't have an affinity for wine in the slightest. The story was told well and the part about Maynard's mother, Judith, was very touching. It was shot on the Red One so the picture quality was very beautiful. Loved it.

I also saw it at the Somerville theater on Friday actually. (Small world) I agree, the movie was awesome. I'm a wine philistine and I really dug all the information the movie provided such as that wine originated from Georgia and spread to middle eastern countries before making it big in Europe. And although I do have a love/love relationship with Maynard I will say that yes obviously he is extremely taciturn and borders on hostile in most interviews. Never the less I think a lot of people are like him in that way but he just happens to be successful and a genius so people get pissed off when they realize that he's flawed and kind of abrasive in interviews when he gets asked dumb questions. Either way the art's more important than the artist. Great movie.

I totally agree with everything you just said. And regarding Maynard, a friend of mine brought up a good point the other day. He said "actually, narcissists are usually among the most interesting and progressive people imaginable." So true!
