Dont like it? You may not get it.

I never get sucked into writing on these boards but...

There seems to be a sizeable amount of negativity surrounding this doc for various reasons, and I have to say, maybe you just aren't picking up what Maynard and co. are putting down.

Not that you have to, that is the beauty of the 'stop' button. If Maynard or wine is not your thing, we need to look no further.

Maynard is clearly happy, and I think his passion and pride for wine making is the only reason he wanted to do a public doc such as this.

What you are watching is not a documentary about wine, or about Maynard specifically, but rather a snapshot in time of how those things came together in a seemingly unlikely way. Perhaps more importantly, how wine has affected Maynard, and how Maynard and Eric are influencing the wine scene. I will just say now that Eric seems educated and likeable for the entirety of his screen time - it was a pleasure to be introduced to him in this way.

Maynard appears to have an internal struggle with addressing the public seriously, when it is clear he wants to talk about his efforts - hence the fake 'intersting things'(and hilarious, don't kid yourself) interview and allusions to how the documentary itself is a bit of a mock up.

The doc comments on that specifically; 'With Maynard, you never know where the fourth wall is' and I think it could not be summed up any clearer.

I think overall the doc was quite insightful into the lives of Eric and Maynard as winemakers, and answers the question everyone was asking; Why? It also satisfies the insatiable desire Tool/ APC or Puscifer fans might have for knowing who Maynard is off-stage.

I have tasted the wine from Arizona Stronghold and Caduceus - both were quite enjoyable, and there is definitely something pleasently unique about it.

It's about a douche, a rich douche, who decides to buy a land somewhere and plant vines there. And then he hires a guy who manages to make a completely irrelevant wine for the "wine scene". A curiosity, if you will.

But mostly, you get to hear A LOT about the douche.
