How to Not Frame a Shot?

I am aware that this movie did not have much of a budget (and looks to have been shot in about two weeks, with little prep time for the actors), but most of the shots seemed like they were shot by someone who was still in film school.

Yes, it is much better than what I could do, but it made the actors (all of whom have decent resumes) appear amateurish. It didn't help that the WASPy problems they had gave no sense of immediacy or import.
