Is it 90 minutes, or 125 minutes?

I am getting conflicting stories, and I really would like to know the actual runtime from anyone who has seen it. Thanks!

125minutes, actually, the 180 minutes version is coming out soon.

Where did you find out information on the 180 minute version???
Do you have link for it, and is it a director's cut? ^^;

reply

I just watched the US version, it's 125 minutes.

I should have realised when watching it had originally been longer, Deng's Canadian husband in particular seems to come out of nowhere.

I'm interested to learn more about the 180 version. The in theater version was ~125, and included English dubs, so the version everyone's already seen is the same as it was in China.

And also, the jump intro of the Canadian character followed the flow of the movie. If you haven't noticed the director chose to let the audience assume certain events happened. Deng reconnecting with her brother was a rather abrupt jump, but that's just how the movie went.

On Amazon, today, it says "136 mins.", with English subs. There is also a Chinese version at 155 mins. If you check eBay, there are many versions and prices, but none the the running time. You never know if the timing includes the extras or just refer to the film its self. Would love to get a 180 min version. Any updates ?

Yeah a few places just left you wondering what happened.
Between getting pregnant and returning was one and mention of getting married to grown daughter.

Just watched it on Netflix. It is 135 min version but there must have been some serious footage cutting. Starting about halfway through the movie there were many scenes that were obviously missing as it fast forwarded through what should have been important parts. The biggest one was when she hears her brother (though she doesn't know at that time) talking to another person about the 1976. Next thing you know....they are in a car headed to see their mother. That right there would have been one of the most crucial and dramatic scenes of the movie.

I thought the same thing too at first but then I realized that having 2 emotional reunitings at the end would've been too much for a movie that was already over 2 hours. I think they skipped her meeting brother for the first time because her reuniting with her mother was the more important one.

I just watched the "China Lion" DVD and it was 135 minutes. The DVD was in Mandarin except for a two minute English language scene in Canada. They included English and Mandarin subtitles but not dubbing. There were no bonus features.
