They should submit this for Oscar Best Foreign Picture

Touching film.
Hopefully China will submit this as their representative for Best Foreign Picture.

I thought it was good. Had me crying at one part and didn't think I was going to. It really effected me big time. Surprised how good the special effects were too but that really wasn't the important part. The story was!

My thoughts exactly, special effects arent useful in here... Story is!

I am afraid this movie can compete for THE BEST CHINESE MOVIE that have ever been made.

Who cares what award it wins in Oscarville, best movie in the world :)

Beautiful

Well, it is officially a contender for the OSCARS, and since it will be releasing in USA in a couple of weeks, can also be a contender in ANY category.

BTW, how did you see this movie, in a festival or

You can already buy it on Blu-ray from places like Yes Asia.

This was good but it far from great or the best movie in the world. The last 20 minutes are seriously flawed.

YES. THANK YOU.

The ending was way too convenient. Way too emotionally manipulative. And there were some distracting editorial choices to pull away from the family and reintroduce the memorial at the end. Reminded me of how I didn't care for the end of Saving Private Ryan where it just didn't really feel needed and made Aftershock feel more like a propaganda piece even if that wasn't the intent.

Don't get me wrong though. Each actor must've had puffy eyes for months after filming ^_^ and overall I'm still glad I saw it.

"...overall I'm still glad I saw it. "

This for me is the most important thing. I am glad that I saw this movie.

I can't say that about most of the Hollywood fare. No, this movie wasn't flawless, but it came pretty close, and had so so much more story and emotional depth than what I normally see from Hollywood. I was greatly impressed and want to see it again.

From Wikipedia, the nominees (the first film won):

In a Better World (Denmark) in Danish – Susanne Bier

Biutiful (Mexico) in Spanish – Alejandro González Iñárritu
Dogtooth (Greece) in Greek – Yorgos Lanthimos
Incendies (Canada) in French – Denis Villeneuve
Outside the Law (Algeria) in Arabic – Rachid Bouchareb

I've seen only Biutiful and Incendies. I liked Icendies better than beautiful and Aftershock definitely rates up there among these two. Has anyone seen the other movies, and how would you compare them to Aftershock?
