The Scorpion and the frog

This little anecdotal tale was was also in THE CRYING GAME 1992, I wonder if the writer got it from that or coincidence.

Anyway I nice tight little thriller, a page turner. I thought Ferrer was excellent, he should be in more movies.

Actually, the writer originally had Vincent telling Jeff a joke in that scene. The director changed the joke into the old 'Frog & Scorpion' number. This irritated the writer and Miguel Ferrer. Glad you liked the movie.

Just for the sake of interest here is the tale as told in The Crying Game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0I44-XPk2A

It was used in an old episode of 'Star Trek', along with about a dozen other movies and TV shows. Overdone, really. I liked the original joke because it was so out of place and awkward in that tense moment.

But without that tale the final line at the very end of the movie would not have been possible, "It's in my nature", which I think was a damn good line to end on.

Yeah, the director added the last line to make the connection. In the original, Joshua didn't put the gun to the back of Vincent's head. The film just ended on Joshua's voiceover. None of the changes were overly detrimental to the original piece. You learn to pick your battles. It's the writer's story, but it becomes the director's vision.
