I noticed the same thing. The Australian accent was prevalent. I was trying to figure out if this was supposed to be taking place in Australia b/c Staci Keanan, the actress who played Sarah's sister, also put on an Australian accent and she's American.

So perhaps their accent was supposed to be like that because they live in American and was raised with a mom with that accent, so they have a little bit of it or they lived there for a while since their mom is from there. But yeah, the accent went in and out a lot and certain words were stronger than others.
shareRebecca St. James, the actress who portrays Sarah, is really Australian. She has lived in America for quite a while, but the Australian accent is part of who she is. I would guess it's just her real personality that lets the accent come and go with various words.
