Why was Alex spared? (Spoilers)

He seems to be the only one. The others were killed.
Also, were either Alex or Bob the child of that woman Loki went to see, whose son had been kidnapped years ago while playing? I can't remember her name.

Yes, Alex was really Barry Milland, the 7 yr old that went missing 26yrs beforehand (whose mother watched his home video every morning and who Loki went to visit.)

I don't know why Alex was spared; I'm guessing that maybe he was the first kid to be taken (right after the 'aunt's' original son had died from cancer) and maybe he kind of filled a hole in their lives sort of replacing the son they'd lost. She says her husband "had that same look in his eyes until we got Alex" (and I'm thinking she meant that haunted, desperate look of devastation and grief and loss that Drover had). I think it was AFTER abducting Alex that the man and wife got the idea to punish God by making man lose faith when they have their children taken away. So they started taking/killing the children. Obviously some escaped (like Taylor) but most didn't.

That's my basic understanding anyway! Feel free to chip in and correct me if necessary!

Thanks! Yes, you are right, and I remember all you mention. However, it is weird they kept the first child --although abusing him to the point of leaving him the wreck he was-- while killing the others...

Yes, that's my idea too.
