If someone asked me to name a great movie from the last 2-3 years
I'd say The Prisoners, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

being critically acclaimed is no guarantee - but then again, this is all opinion-based
the last movie I watched that I completely ignored but finally gave in because all the critics were raving about it was The Wolf of Wall Street - in my opinion if you take all the shock factor it doesn't even get consideration - yes - supposedly the character really did all of those things, but putting it fully on display also was necessary - the moments lacking sex and drug use were just mediocre - nothing superb about it.
