Opening scene with the deer

I've seen other movies where a deer gets shot killed and wondered how they film this. Do they really kill a deer, or use some kind of CGI or robot deer?

reply

I don't think they really killed that animal, but I am also curious to know how they filmed that.
One other thing is that, what does this deer scene have to do with the whole story?

reply

They make the connection between Christianity - the Our Father is recited - and killing (of the deer) right there. Then they make you feel uneasy about the paranoid lunatic torturing family father who is also a Christian... show a priest as a sex offender... and have the villains become child-abducting villains because they were Christian missionaries.

It starts to show and develop Jackman's character as the survivalist Christian hunter type of guy whos independent and takes care of things on his own.

reply

They don't kill a real deer. They either use CGI or animatronics/practical effects or the combination of both.
