Yes they found him watch the ending again! When Jake Gyllenhaal hears the whistle blowing the screen goes black and you hear the cover over the hole being dragged off you must have missed that bit

reply

You must have made that bit up. There's no sound of the cover being dragged off. Loki hears the whistle and that's it. It's safe to assume he investigated, but it's not as conclusive as you think - the only sound is a sound effect to go with the black screen.

Wasn't Joy too drugged up or traumatised to be questioned properly? She is initially seen unconscious on the hospital bed, and they were waiting for the detective to show up for the questioning. The story then moved to him finding the other guy that was imprisoned and tortured, and then Keller confronting the aunt and getting captured.

That was a logical series of steps, and so they would not have had much time to question a girl that was clearly still in shock.

reply

Yeah, they would have found him, but then he would become a prisoner again for torturing Alex

reply

I honestly dont know why this is always a question with people. Loki clearly hears the whistle. He would have located the sound and rescued Keller. Then sent him to jail.

I believe that Loki hears the whistle and just thinks that the bang t his head he received after being shot had hurt his eardrum or some blood had pooled up inside it and had caused tinnitus and so he jumped into his car and went to the hospital to get his ears checked out.

The dead body is discovered a few days later after forensics have returned to the house to finish excavating.

Loki sees the whistle between the deceased lips and realises it was an actual whistle he heard and he doesn't have tinnitus so he drives straight back to the doctor for a refund on the expensive ear drops he'd made him buy.

Love your humor:)

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!! Best explanation ever!

Was the movie faithful to the original script re the ending?

I hope they don't mind if I reprint this last part of the script, simply to reinforce the current discussion --

Tech 2 shuts off the radio and follows his cohort into the house. Loki hangs back. It's dead quiet now.

Loki walks around the yard. He takes a closer look at the Trans Am, staring into its gutted interior, thinking...

He walks back towards the house, looking bothered by something, his mind grinding gears...

He takes a last look at the moonlit yard, then turns around about to enter the house-- when he hears something...

It's very faint but almost sounds like a whistle. Loki turns around. Could have been the wind, but...

There it is again. It's coming from the Trans Am.

Loki walks through the snow to the Trans Am, dread blossoming in his eyes. He hears the whistle again and picks up the pace, almost there as we

FADE TO BLACK

The End.

This sounds as if Loki was on the way to finding Keller... but did the movie deliberately miss out the scene described in the last 2 sentences ( before Fading To Black) of the original script?

reply

Plays out exactly, he pinpoints the location of the whistle and then it fades to black. No walking. But its implied.

You know what the Queen said? If I had balls, I'd be King.

reply

I would say he was definately found. The final scenes only work because the audience knows he is in the covered pit under the car. As everybody leaves the crime scene one by one we are thinking the worse. And then it builds to when the last cop is about to leave and he hears the whistle ever so faintly. This is sufficient to grab his attention and despite the movie ending there, you just know his curiosity will result in him finding the victim. A tremendous ending in my book.

Aww poor baby has soiled his diaper because he didn't get the ending he wanted. Wah wah wah.

At least his existence isn't so miserable he has to make posts like yours on the internet to compensate.

Roadrunner.

reply

He definitely finds him, it's made clear. He dismisses the whistle at first, but them he hears it very clearly. That little detail makes it clear.

reply

He never gets found till he's dead most likely, this is his karma punishment for what he did to Alex. Alex was beaten up, tied up locked in the bathroom crying and had hot water turned on him, Kelly is shot handcuffed and freezing to death. Paybacks are a bitch.

reply

I think it's more than acknowledged Loki found him. After the whistle is heard you know Loki's curiosity will take over.
It's a nice Sopranos ending here, cutting to black in the middle of a scene.
