Hate hate HATE endings like this!!!! *Spoilers*

Ya know, I get the idea of subtlety and all that. Jake gylenhol hears the whistle at the end, and ya know he's gonna find high Hackman, bla bla bla. Ok, directors, here's the dam thing......audiences WANT the DAM pay off scene!!!!! They don't want to friggin "imagine" it. But you keep your artistic integrities, and keep makin movies that could have been great, and remembered. Instead, ya make a dam ending that RUINS the whole movie!! People wanna see him pulled out of that hole, and reunited with his dam family. Wether he's going to jail or not. People wanna see it!! And this movie could have done without the whole Hugh jackman kidnapping "Alex". It was unecessary. Get real.

reply

Dam auto correct, I meant "hugh jackman" in the beginning of my last message!! ;-)

reply

I thought the autocorrect was going to fix “dam”.

I felt the same way you did when I watched it for the first time in theaters. I just watched it for a second time and felt much better about the ending this time. You know what's going to happen to Keller once he's found. He'll go to prison. I think showing all that would have taken away from the original story. Loki hearing the whistle provides just enough to tell you what happens next.

reply

It's because of idiots like you that all Hollywood films look exactly the same. In the script he doesn't actually find him but ignore the whistle, but that was considered to bleak.

reply

The screen writer contradicts you here 100%: https://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/the-prisoners-spoilers-on-the-ending?utm_term=.utrVOJyZa#.ww46JeAVN

The film ending was in the script! The only different ending they shot was where Loki actually opens the trap door and sees Keller. Better back up your claims with some sources!

reply

Yes. I've read the script and he does hear the whistle. The OP is wrong. The OP's mindset is the same mindset that gives us 8 Fast Furious movies. It's sad.

The ending is amazing. It's subtle yes, but we can see in Gyllenhaal's reaction that he's gonna find Dover. It's not so much an ending open for interpretation as people might like to believe. Gyllenhaal's reaction, as I said, is a giveaway.

Caesar. Is. Home.

I loved the ending. It still sticks with me to this day.

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.

reply

That's what makes it so great!

reply

I'm not surprised you want a clear happy ending. Most people want the same thing and that's why Hollywood money-making movies all have those endings, just so they can keep you all satisfied. I don't blame you though, cos people are conditioned to want to see clear resolutions to stories that give them a good pat on the back for making it through a thriller. You can sleep easy though cos it's obvious Loki heard the whistle cos he reacted to it twice, and it wouldn't be hard to find him.

reply

Your reaction to the ending is precisely why the director chose to do it. It still draws you in, even after its finished.

reply

And this movie could have done without the whole Hugh jackman kidnapping "Alex"

The kidnapping and brutal treatment is integral to the movie. Removing it would be a trivialize the film. It is called Prisoners and it represents both the girls and Alex and portrays the effects of these prisoners on both the families and captors. Keller is driven to near insanity because of the kidnapping of his child and what might be happening to her, yet he feels justified in kidnapping Alex who is, on the mental level, a child and torturing him. The kidnapping of Alex reveals the dark things we are capable of and reminds us that right and wrong are relative concepts.

reply

thank you. OP is an idiot

reply

You should just say YOU want to see the "romanced" ending where everyone loves each other and everything is fine. Not everyone does. It's a good ending actually. You know he'll rescue him so why do you need to see it?

reply

Its a reason why the movie is called "Prisoners" a plural, not the same as one.
