The Marmaduke comic strip was never anything of substance. The generic dog jokes could be interchanged with 1000 other characters. There was really no reason for this generic dog movie to be called Marmaduke. It simply bought the name for the recognition, replacing one generic interchangeable formula with another.

I agree. They obtained the comic strip's name so it could be used the name solely for name recognition. Once you get past that it's an okay film.

I don't think you could do a film that was true to the comic strip that would work as a film.
