What was the "WITNESS ME" silver mouth spray?

I can understand that they would see it as preparation to enter Valhalla, ie. sacrificing themselves for the greater good, but I just wonder what the significance of the silver spray on the mouth and teeth was?

Just something to show that the citadel builders hoarded the wrong cans.

I looked at it like a sacrament. Their societal model was that of a typical cult leader and his religious acolytes. "Huffing" paint is a pretty low grade buzz and thus fits right in as a post-apocalypse drug sacrament.

One enters Valhalla via dying in combat. The visual of the silver mouth is much like Indian war paint. Ceremonial display of significant intent.

The movie wasn't perfect but I really liked the attention to detail with War-Boy culture.

It is stated in the film ... Immontal Joe is like the messiah/prophet/cult leader that worshiped engine motors and cars and Valhala is like a place after death were there are a lot of shinning cars, V8 engines and stuff.

The painting is literally silver chrome that is used nowdays to paint the engines of cars and wheels, etc. I believe is to make them more "motor like worthy" of entry into Valhala!

I know, is absouletely crazy and funny! LOL
