the Reapings of the Careers

I wonder how that goes. Because these kids seem to view it differently, for them, it's like winning the lottery. In the poorer districts, kids will get money for their families by having their names put in extra.

I wonder how that works in the wealthier districts. They're better off, where shelter and starvation aren't quite the concern they are in 12. So I wonder if this is even an option, or if there's a different way to get your name in extra, because they all seem like that's something they'd *want*

The careers were volunteers. They trained for the game in academies and were selected by the district prior to the reaping to represent them. It didn't matter who was selected, the designated careers volunteer to take their places.

I've never read that before. Is that something you *know* or something you consider head-canon? Because that's a good explanation, thanks.

From the book:

The exceptions are the kids from the wealthier districts, the volunteers, the ones who have been fed and trained throughout their lives for this moment. The tributes from 1,2, and 4 traditionally have this look about them. It's technically against the rules to train tributes before they reach the Capitol but it happens every year. In District 12, we call them the Career Tributes, or just the Careers. And like as not, the winner will be one of them.

Cato alluded to it as well in the movie - at the end in the showdown, "I could still do this. Only one more kill. It's the only thing I know how to do. Bring honor to my district."

I think there are other references in the book and the book sequels, but it's been a while since I've read them.

Perfect, thank you.

Also been a while since I've read or watched too obviously.
