THE HUNGER GAMES BOOK v. THE MOVIE (BOOK A+/MOVIE C-)

The first book was amazing from start to finish. You get a peak into District 12 and then BOOM you’re on your way to the Capital w/ Katniss preparing to enter the Arena. The detailed descriptions of the fascist government, the mocking of the media along w/ Katniss’ wit and bravery make this book a bold ride. Once you enter the Arena it’s OVER! Cancel all of your plans, turn your ringer off you will NOT be able to put the book down. Idc if you’ve seen the film a million times it just can not compare... which brings me to why I gave the movie a C-.

I love JLaw for starters and I enjoyed the book so much I couldn’t wait to watch the movie. I was all set to buy the trilogy on Amazon when Freeform aired a marathon. DVR was on ready and so was I. Y’all I was so let down. I mean the film lacked any of the detail mentioned in the book. I wanted to SEE the lamb stew that Katniss went on and on about in the book... I wanted to SEE Katniss begin to fall in love w/ Peeta in the cave. The movie didn’t handle that well and left that romance feeling contrived as opposed to the blossoming of deep feelings on Katniss’ behalf. I really fxcking couldn’t stand it. I only gave it a C- for JLaw, Rue’s death scene and Liam Hemsworth being cast as Gale was spot on. Josh Hutcherson as Peeta was an unforgivable mistake and affected the entire franchise as he needed to be leading man material since he had so much more screen time than Liam’s character. The book made it clear that Peeta was the softer and stockier alternative to the tall, dark and handsome Gale but damn they could’ve given us SOMETHING to root for! You truly do fall in love w/ book Peeta right along w/ Katniss, JH just doesn’t deliver I’m sorry. He almost cheapens the movie!!!!!
