What do Japanese think of the Hunger Games?

Are there any Japanese on this board, and if so, what do you think of the Hunger Games? I've seen Hunger Games and Battle Royale, and I know about all the trolling going on about these movies. I was just curious what the Japanese actually think about it.

reply

I'm sure opinions vary as widely among Japanese film goers as among American, but I'd put money that more Japanese have seen The Hunger Games than have seen BR.

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

The Box Office figures in Japan for the series are:
Hunger Games $5 million
Catching Fire $1.75 million(Interesting that BO did not rise for Catching Fire
like in the west.)
Mockingjay Pt 1 $1.6 million
Mockingjay Pt 2 $1.225 million

For Comparison:
Twilight $2.5 million
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone $153 million

Why would the Japanese or anyone else bother with a PG-13 dumbed down version of BATTLE ROYALE and its non-canon sequel when they can enjoy the original?

reply

Usually Japanese, especially the younger ones, are fascinated with anything that comes out of the United States.

reply

Too bad that's not the case with these works of plagiarism.

reply

Being a Rip-off doesn't make it bad.

reply

Why would they even bother with a watered down piece of PG-13 *beep* battle Royale 1 and 2 are SEVERAL times better and SEVERAL times more violent

reply

Having more violence isn't necessarily a good thing. The point of the Hunger Games series wasn't about the violence--it was about the totalitarian government and the crappy society that existed and the journey to change things.
