Greedy Patricia (spoilers)

Does anyone else think it was appaling how Patricia turned money hungry in the end. She's there yelling after Gavin about moeny when he has the accident. It was appalling. She could have given him half the royalties then still made it back. Greedy, greedy!

Money is the root of all evil!

Actually the Love of money is the root of evil. Patricia and Gavin were having problems every since the death of their son, possible before, but when he felt he deserved half of her money from her book, that was the straw that broke the camels back, that truly hit a nerve and then it was on.

I agree about Patricia being greedy. I don't care about what anybody says. She's going around calling her husband a bitch. Oh please! I've studied enough pyschology to know "projection" when I see it. And that pot was calling the kettle black. I'm telling you, money can truly be an evil master, if you let it be. Gavin had every right to half of that money. Without it, they were both going to get $970,000? Oh, what a nightmare! I write a check for over $100 and I get a scomach ache. And Patricia was complaining about $4,000 and saying it was all HER money???? Yep, that's money-hungry for yuh! Now, I can understand that when a child of the family dies, things change. Things are never the same. The marriage is never the same. The people are never the same. I know... I've seen it. I've seen it in my own family. Sometimes, the couple does drift apart. That's plausable and realistic. But that's gives no excuse for being money-hungry. NONE! If Patricia wants to pretend that things are fine when they are not, that's her choice. If she wants to "shut her husband out" due to her heartbreak and guilt, that's her choice. But again, this has nothing to do with money. When you marry and (unfortunately) get divorced, it is 50/50, baby. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, if Patricia made the money from the book sales BEFORE she married Gavin, then that would be different. Then, I would say: "Yes, that money truly and legally belongs to HER and HER ONLY". Then, I would say "Let the fight begin". However, that wasn't the case. She made it WHILE she was married to Gavin. 50/50, baby. Nuff said on that one.

I maybe talking out of a soapbox on this one, but I have not liked Patricia's character since I've seen this movie. I have nothing aginst the actoress, but I do not like her character. Nothing came between Patricia and her money, boy. Not even her husband, who had a right to half of it. As far as I'm concerned, she killed him. God took him away from her and it was within reason. He didn't deserve to die, but his death was out of greed! So, now, she gets it all. Good for her, right? And to beat all, not even a year after his death, she write another book about "moving on" or something like that. What did she do after the funeral, go home to what she so blantantly referred to as HER HOUSE and start another book, so she can make MORE money. Profiting from someone's death... How nice.

Oh, and by the way... I also totally agree with Thessalonians 4:18. Hit the nail on the head there! Amen!

Why was Dianne Patricia's attorney? Isn't that kind of a conflict of interest since they are close friends who go all the way back to college? Or is it okay for someone to act as an attorney for close friends and family? It seems like it might be unethical. Especially in that case where she was close friends with both Patricia and Gavin. I would not want to get in the middle of that fight.

In Soul Food (TV series), Teri also represented her family/friends, which I though twas a little odd, but I'm not entirely sure how law works, so...

I do know that surgeons aren't allowed to perform on family.

I thought she was yelling at him before the accident because he had went into her account and took all of her money out of it. I might have heard her wrong but that what it sounded like she was saying.

I thought I was the only one. I agree with everything you said about the Patricia character. I really hate how she embarrassed Gavin at his job and yes she killed him and then at the hospital. "fix it". It was really hard to see her go on. I did not enjoy this movie as much as I did the first one.

Yes, I thought she was greedy. I don't see the problem w/ him getting at least a portion of the royalties. Especially since it's a book about relationships...and wouldn't he have inspired at least some of what was written in it?

Actually, the $970k was only part of it, there was another account with like $600k or something. They were both walking away with well over a million! And it wasnt $4000.00, it was $800K!! She "hid" that account, and just ASSUMED it would go to her and be hers. Well, even splitting it, thats still a hefty split, however, I totally agreed with Gavin. He helped her with that book in more ways than 1. By hearing her, inspiring her (as well as her friends), giving her suggestions (which she so nicely said she used NONE of it, which I doubt), waiting for her on book tours, and so much more!

This was CONTROL, pure and simple. She made that money while they were MARRIED, and he's entitled to half of that, unless there is a contract stating otherwise. She wanted to have something that was all hers. She wanted to "be on top" and "win" in this divorce. She was being all nice and fake during the meeting with the lawyers, and was in agreement with everything. Even nodding towards Gavin as if "yeah, that's what we agreed, that sounds fair. Right, Gavin?...we're still going to be friends, you'll see. I still love him, and everything sounds right and fair, now lets sign and get divorced". --- then BAM, as soon as they found out about her other little nest egg, she flipped the switch real quick.

Im not sure if he ever abused her prior to that night we saw. But I think when she found out that he blamed her for killing their son and resented her for hiding her feelings, he grew distant. And since he blamed her, she resented him and wanted to have more than him.

Him cleaning out the bank, I believe, would be illegal. They agreed on a certain amount to be split, just still negotiating for the other $800K. He had no right to clean out her account. Just like what Mike did to Sheila.
