It would have been better...

This documentary really affected me... I remembered it for years afterward. But I can't help thinking it would have been better without the transvestite angle.

If he's a transvestite, that's fine, I don't care, but the film was very compelling without it. I can't help feeling like the transvestite angle was put in to be salacious.

Actually I don't even care about that, it's the scene where he walks in wearing women's clothing. Even though I know that's who he is, it seemed very... exploitative. Very salacious, for it's own sake.
