Did anyone watch the DVD extras?

I ask this because, throughout the movie, Mark spoke in a very slow, deliberate speech pattern -- one you might expect from someone who has sustained a brain injury.

But in one of the DVD extras where Mark is discussing how the movie turned out, I was surprised at how different his speech pattern was from the movie. He was talking at a faster clip, which didn't seem to be labored in any way.

Though I believe the story of his beating to be true, I have to say that at different points throughout the film (even before I saw the DVD extra where he's talking faster), I got a bit of an inauthentic vibe from him; something a little "actor-y" about his demeanor.

Anyone else?

Room for one more, honey.

Kinda of a late reply to you, but I think Mark's speech pattern wasn't so much deliberate as being slightly German accented. His grandparents and mother were from Germany as revealed in the extra scenes. And I noticed his mom spoke the same way.

Also, this particular scene was shot well after the filming for the documentary had finished. Perhaps his ability to articulate had improved more by then. I don't think he was faking anything.
