Is It As Good As The Original?

Is it as good as the 1970 original?

The original was brilliant. It will take some living up to.

Hi it is not too bad it is similar to the 1970 film i wont give out too much info as you might like to see the film. The original was a very good film and i have both films l prefer the original better as the acting is better and it is a typical 1070's british thriller this one is ok the acting is ok but so so the 2 leading ladies in this one are pretty just like pamela franklin and michelle dotrice in the 1970 film but this one is worth seeing .

I'm almost tempted to play the dirtiest trick of all and not tell you how poor the remake is, but in this case, that would be too too cruel.

There are some remakes that are not bad. Some, and I dare say Carpenter's THE THING, are very good, but most are very bad.

And then some are so terrible they leave you speechless. This one may actually count as one of the unintentionally funny ones of the future. For now, it is just plain poor. 1\10

It is bad, and most of all totally useless

What are you talking about? The original was incredibly mediocre and boring.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

This isn't the worst re-make of all time, but the original was better. They should have at least kept the classic scene where the killer reveals himself by slipping his hand into the rear pocket of the heroine's shorts and squeezing her ass. That was great!

I am not a big fan of the original film but do remember it well and think that it had certain merits, at least as compared to this silly remake. Like most British thrillers of that period, the original relied mainly on mood and atmosphere rather than explicit violence or gore. There was an atmosphere of suspicion and dread, especially when one of the girls disappeared (she was murdered by a sex maniac but we knew only later) and that was maintained successfully till the end of the film. The remake practically gave away everything at the beginning showing an anonymous girl being held captive by human traffickers in the pre-credit scene.

The two girls in the original were innocent English nurses just going for a bicycle trip through France. It was easy to feel sorry for them. In the remake they became two bikini-clad brazen American airheads indulging in drugs, alcohol and (for Ellie) sex while visiting a foreign country. I personally don't care if Ellie lived or not.

The original film ended soon after the reveal of the murderer - as it should have. But I guess the remake felt it necessary to make it more "exciting" for the viewers and included almost half an hour of action sequences in which the Amber Heard character suddenly turned into an action hero and disposed of all the villains by herself. The remake did not even have a sensible ending. There was a trail of dead bodies, but how did the authorities discover what had really happened?

To say Ellie was asking for 'it' is an understatement.

I traveled in S. America, and we usually go by a few rules, don't go out in cities or towns alone, and don't bring attention to yourself.

I've not seen the original, but this was pretty bad. I'd say whether or not this was a remake of some earlier film is irrelevant.

Great comments about the ending. I don't see how the authorities could piece it all together, especially if some of this happened in Paraguay (they crossed a river, and it was stated that Paraguay was across the river).
