Why Dress the Triplets the Same

Why were the three guys in the woods dressed in the same exact costumes? What was the point?

And why were they even apart of the movie in the first place?!

The version I saw was on Netflix, if that makes a difference as to why I have no clue why they are important other than being the dudes in the woods who chase people down.

I've heard they were decoys to confuse the police when they eventually arrived. Apparently this subplot was mostly cut for time.

Nope, the main motive for dressing the triplets in those same three costumes as Robbie(clown), Jack(farmer), Andy(Nazi), was so the triplets would not be implicated in the crimes committed. They had no plan to commit suicide(triplets) and were to basically serve as outside security.

In their being dressed in those same three costumes allowed for their existence to have never been known, all survivors would never had had any clue of their existence and they would've been allowed to go on with their lives unknown and unpunished.

And that's exactly what happened with the third, and only surviving triplet, at the end you see him outside the school ride off on his dirt bike as Kurtis watches him with a suspicious eye.

This makes more sense.
However, the triplets left behind their dead bodies ( minus the one survivor ) so that would leave the survivor to a much bigger suspicion than just Curtis'.
